Engineered Air is seeking a qualified candidate to fulfill a full-time role for the newly created position of Software Development Manager, reporting to the Manager of Digital Technology. This position is office-based working out of the company’s head office facility in Calgary and will interact with all levels of management across North America. The position’s priorities would be to manage various software development projects, some of which are currently underway, while providing insight and guidance into software development technology opportunities for the company along with oversight, mentorship, development, and project management for our group of developers.

The successful candidate will establish and implement quality controls, code reviews, documentation standards, complete periodic reviews of the corporate technology stack, ensure development is undertaken within the company’s technology stack, and manage technology debt update cycles. Management duties are expected to account for roughly half of the workload for the candidate. The remaining workload will be filled by programming, advancing active projects, and research.

Tasks:

• Provide mentorship and leadership for a development team of approximately 10 developers.
• Manage various software development tasks including managing and interfacing with remote contractors and third-party development companies.
• Create a framework for future development to match the company’s technology stack including implementing quality controls, code reviews and identify update cycles.
• Manage the company’s legacy software and provide a roadmap for expected development cycles for future development projects.
• Interface with various teams (e.g. Design, Sales, Production, Information Systems) to ensure business needs are being met with available custom software.
• Undertake research, programming and development as time allows (expectation is roughly 50:50 management to development/programming/research time).

Skills & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience is required.
• Excellent time management and prioritizing abilities to handle a dual focus role of management and development.
• 7+ years of solid experience in full-stack development using a technology stack that matches the company’s current development environment (MongoDB, SQL Server, .NET, C#, Vue.JS, microservice architecture via RESTful APIs, Linux VM’s) and experience with the company’s legacy technology stack (VBA, VB6, .NET, MS Excel and Access)
• Experience managing a diverse team working on multiple projects.
• Possess enterprise development experience including requirements analysis and scope control.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent English verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision or assistance to complete tasks.
• Experience with code source control (GIT)
• Agile Development / SCRUM
